SemiDevices to Release an Analytical Survey of IPTV Market in Russia

SemiDevices experts have collected and analyzed statistics on the development of the Russian IPTV market in 2010–2011. The completed report has provided a basis for an article on barriers and incentives for IPTV growth, which will be published in the September edition of Broadcasting. Television and Radio (No.5).

The IPTV delivery technology in the Russian Federation makes up only 2 percent[AG1]  of the TV subscribers’ payments and 3 percent of the market, based on revenue. However, it is clear from the analysis of market trends and analysts’ forecasts that IPTV for business is an untapped market segment with a huge potential for future revenue growth.

Today one of the major factors hindering IPTV development in Russia is a high cost of equipment, including user equipment. This limits market access opportunities for small and medium-sized broadband internet providers. However, there are real points of IPTV growth. In particular, we can observe it in the reduction of the entry barrier by creating budget STBs with a minimum of middleware, as well as in the creation and maintenance of industry standards.
